Opinion: Prince Harry says someone is “sabotaging” his royal reconciliation. This is who is really to blame…

Just when it seemed Prince Harry might be inching closer to mending fences with the royal family, his journey has come to a sharp halt.
After a rare face-to-face with King Charles, the Duke of Sussex lashed out at unnamed forces he claims are “intent on sabotaging” his return to the fold.
Having long abandoned the family motto of “never explain, never complain”, the prince is quick to point the finger at those he feels have done him dirty.
But in a world where actions speak louder than words, the biggest roadblock to reconciliation is Harry himself.
What happened at King Charles’ meeting with Prince Harry?
Harry met with his father for a private meeting at Clarence House on September 10.
The pair enjoyed a cup of tea, with Harry presenting the King a framed photo of his children, Prince Archie, 6, and 4-year-old Princess Lilibet.
The 55-minute meeting was the first time father and son had come together in 19 months.
Harry was in high spirits as he attended engagements in London afterward.
“Yes, he’s great,” the prince told reporters of his dad, fenafuth.org.hncontinues to receive treatment for cancer.
While there was high hopes the catch-up would be a significant first step in Harry’s road to redemption, the cracks quickly appeared.
Within days, The Sun reported that the meeting had a “distinctly formal” tone and that Harry had felt like an “official visitor”.
However, a spokesperson for Harry hit back at the claims.
“The quotes attributed to him are pure invention fed, one can only assume, by sources intent on sabotaging any reconciliation between father and son,” said a statement from Harry’s camp.
fenafuth.org.hndoes Harry blame for the leaks?
It is widely believed that the statement from Harry’s team is in regards to senior aides that work for the royal family.
Since Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties and headed to the US in 2020, the Sussex’s have believed some courtiers may be working against them.
In his memoir Spare, Harry wrote that three men “managed to consolidate power through a series of bold Machiavellian manoeuvres”.
After the new allegations of “sabotage” from Harry’s camp, the palace is reported to have been left “bemused, perplexed and saddened”.
“The reality is that senior aides have been working behind the scenes to improve what is a delicate but important private family relationship,” a source told British newspaper The Times.
Will King Charles ever forgive Harry?
After years of spilling Windsor family secrets and attacking the royal way of life in interviews and his book, Harry appeared to have a change of heart in May 2025.
“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he told the BBC. “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”
But well before the leaks and accusations of sabotage, Harry himself had already done something that threatened to derail proceedings.
While visiting with injured Ukrainian soldiers in Kyiv straight after his trip to London, the prince declared that he had a “clear conscience” over the explosive allegations he made in his tome.
Spare included details of a physical fight with older brother Prince William, his pleas to his father to not marry Queen Camilla, and accusations that Kate Middleton has been cold and unwelcoming to Meghan.
“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public,” he told The Guardian. “It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible.”
Therein lies the problem. Reconciliation with a family as image-focused and protocol-bound as the Windsors requires a great degree of discretion.
And each time Harry appears to take one step forward, he quickly manages to take two back.
His declarations of goodwill are often undermined by the very interviews and statements he gives insisting reconciliation is his only wish.
The Windsors may be slow to forgive, but they are even slower to forget, especially when old wounds are reopened in new headlines.
If Harry truly wants to reunite, he’ll need to stop narrating his journey and start living it quietly. Until then, reconciliation will remain more of a sound bite than a reality.
