Alibaba-owned online travel agent Fliggy is expanding its collaboration with global travel booking site Agoda to provide more overseas travel services for Chinese outbound travelers. The initiative follows China’s relaxation of strict pandemic restrictions since December, resulting in a gradual recovery in international travel by Chinese citizens. According to a statement by Agoda, the company and its parent company Booking.com will provide Fliggy users with “more competitively priced overseas hotel booking options” from their portfolio of over 3.6 million accommodation properties worldwide. During this year’s Labor Day holiday at the beginning of May, China’s National Immigration Administration reported a total of 6.3 million travelers engaged in outbound and inbound travel. This figure represents more than double the number from the same period last year, although it is still less than 60% of the level seen in 2019. [Agoda announcement]
