Chinese tech unicorn ByteDance has sent bonuses to staff laid off in January this year, ahead of the all-important Lunar New Year holiday (Jan. 31 to Feb. 6). The bonuses, given in digital red packets, range from RMB 588 to RMB 6,888 ($92 to $1,082), depending on how many years the employees have worked at the company. ByteDance has gone through several rounds of layoffs since late last year. It recently cut nearly 100 people in mid-January when it downsized its investment unit. [Sina Tech, in Chinese]
