China approves 113 games in March as industry hopes for return to growth · TechNode

The National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA), China’s gaming regulator, announced 86 licenses for domestic games on March 23. The new batch of approved titles follows a list of 27 foreign games that were cleared for publishing by the NPPA on March 20. Among the new domestic titles, Tencent was given a green light for The Last Blade, a martial arts-themed action dual-platform game, while NetEase was granted a license for mobile combat game Mission Zero. In the first three months of 2023, 288 new games (including 27 imported games) have now been approved in China, with an average of 87 approvals each month. Compared with the average of 43 per month in 2022, the first quarter’s raft of licenses has boosted confidence in China’s gaming industry. The major gaming publishers, such as Tencent and NetEase, will now speed up the release of new games this year, a source from the NPPA told China Star Market. [China Star Market, in Chinese]
