Perpetual’s drilling in Brazil reveals critical minerals with standout high grades

  • Perpetual discovers high-value pegmatite system during maiden drilling at Igrejinha
  • The company has appointed an in-country manager in Brazil to drive the portfolio forward
  • More drilling is being planned

Special Report: First pass drilling at Perpetual Resources’ Igrejinha asset in Brazil’s Lithium Valley has hit high grades, confirming a fertile critical minerals system right in the heart of the region.

Maiden drilling has uncovered a strong mineralised pegmatite system, with early intercepts suggesting it could be much larger or even stacked.

The results point to multiple high-value minerals at grades well above global averages, including stand-out hits of tin, tungsten, caesium, tantalum and lithium, highlighting the project’s potential as a significant critical minerals discovery.

Certified assays from pollucite-rich samples at Morro Grande have confirmed exceptionally high-grade caesium, with most samples reporting above the 5% upper detection limit.

Other grades included:

  • 2m at 2.5% tin (upper detection limit reached), plus 4,982 ppm tantalum;
  • 1m at 1.56% tungsten, plus 1,230 ppm caesium;
  • 1m at 1.83% caesium;
  • 1m at 1,570 ppm tantalum; and
  • 1m at 0.54% lithium.

Once the site of shallow artisanal mining, Morro Grande is now recognised as a unique polymetallic pegmatite system, with drilling showing mineralisation extending beyond 50m deep and remaining open in multiple directions.

Perpetual Resources (ASX:PEC) says the results highlight a fertile, high-grade LCT-style system with strong pathfinder elements to guide exploration toward richer lithium zones.

Big growth potential at Morro Grande

PEC executive chairman Julian Babarczy said delivering such strong grades across a range of high-value critical minerals from a maiden program gives the company confidence that Morro Grande’s unique mineralisation will expand with follow-up drilling.

“Mineral distributions in pegmatite systems are typically erratic, and higher-grade intersections are often difficult to achieve in early programs, which makes these results, which confirm strongly anomalous contents across multiple elements, and which validate the fertility of the system, particularly significant,” he said.

“Importantly, this is only the first of many regional targets, yet it already demonstrates a strongly enriched system with significant grade and upside.”

The strong results from the maiden program have backed Perpetual’s decision to bring on an experienced in-country manager.

Their local expertise will be key to pushing the company’s target-rich portfolio forward, with a short transition period helping to align the timing of results and keeping momentum as Perpetual rolls out its Brazil strategy.

Upcoming exploration work

Importantly, these outcomes reflect only first-pass testing of two priority anomalies within the company’s extensive regional portfolio, with several other compelling targets yet to be drill tested

Follow-up exploration is now planned across the wider Igrejinha area, including new, near drill-ready targets at Renaldinho and Matrix, as the company chases more high-value LCT prospects.

Perpetual is preparing a comprehensive follow-up program, which will be communicated to the market once planning has been completed.
